Santa aims for a record with the help of Space Bags
As Christmas draws ever closer, high street shoppers are feeling the pinch from both the plunging winter temperatures and similarly plummeting bank balances.
Nevertheless, people all over the world are busy preparing for the big day on 25 December, which this year falls on a Friday.
But in a quiet corner of the North Pole, there is an even more important focus for Santa's team of industrious elves, who are excitedly getting ready for their most important night of the year, Christmas Eve. According to Santa's spokesperson, Ron the elf, this year Santa is aiming to beat all his previous records with the help of some amazing space saving bags, called quite appropriately ?Space Bags'.
In a statement Ron said: "There's a lot of excitement among the gift packing crew. There's a real buzz going around this year that we might beat the previous record time for Christmas present deliveries." The current record standing at 3 hours and 58 minutes was set way back in 1939, which was according to Ron: "a very naughty year", resulting in a much lighter load for Santa.
In the packing room there is a hive of activity as elves are hard at work packing the presents into the Space Bags, which work by removing all the air to create four times the amount of room on the sleigh. A similar product called Pack Mate is also under scrutiny, and the elves are confident that these space saving products will help to smash the record that has now stood for 70 years.
Ron explains: "Using the Space Bags and Pack Mate Travel Bags we can squeeze a lot more onto the sleigh for each trip, saving time and helping the reindeer to use less energy. Santa's also been keen for us to reduce our carbon footprint, so this should help with that too, because after they've been fed, those reindeer sure produce a lot of gas!
Although Santa was unavailable for comment due to his strict annual regime of intense beard growing, snowman making and mince pie tasting, which he keeps throughout every December, his official statement released yesterday said: "I'm confident that with these Space Bags and Pack Mate Bags keeping the drag factor to a minimum, we can set a record time.
"The naughty list is at a fairly typical level this year so without any other mitigating circumstances such as strong winds or excessive chimney blockages, I expect a good result."
The statement went on to say that Santa is always keen to look at new and innovative products that help him in his work, and early signs indicate that he will certainly be using Space Bags and Pack Mates for future deliveries. The statement closed with an upbeat Santa wishing everyone a very merry Christmas, and signing off with his trademark: "Ho ho ho."
